The number of emails that bounced (hard + soft).

Why Bounce Rate Matters

Your email bounce rate is one of the most important metrics for email deliverability. A high bounce rate signals to email service providers (ESPs) like Gmail, Outlook, and Yahoo that you are sending to a low-quality list, which can cause your future emails to land in spam even for valid recipients.

Hard bounces are permanent delivery failures caused by invalid or non-existent email addresses. These should be removed from your list immediately. Soft bounces are temporary failures caused by full inboxes, server issues, or rate limiting. Repeated soft bounces to the same address should also be investigated.

Most ESPs recommend keeping your bounce rate below 2%. Rates above 5% can trigger automatic throttling or even account suspension. The best way to maintain a healthy bounce rate is to verify your email list before sending and implement real-time verification on signup forms.
